AANT Newsletter October 2010

Chloe, pictured above, has now been adopted!

We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the past year. Thanks to you we have been able to help over 120 animals find their forever homes and we hope to be able to help even more in the year ahead.

  • Adoption Events

One of the main activities, which allow us to make a difference are Adoption Events. Our group organized a booth at the Keller Farmer's Market last October and invited local rescue groups to bring along their adoptable animals. AANT members also collaborated with the Humane Society in three adoption events, which were very successful. As well as finding homes for many animals these activities allowed us to expand our network of contacts.

The most rewarding aspect of working with animals in need is witnessing a sick dog  regain its health or a homeless cat find a wonderful home. To find out about some of the animals we have helped, please click on our Happy Tails Page.

Fostering

As well as fostering AANT members have found new families willing to foster and help rescue groups cope with the overwhelming number of animals arriving daily in shelters. As rescue groups can only save animals when foster families are available, the importance of increasing the number of families willing to help an animal ‘in transition’ is crucial.

Donations

Our group made donations to several organizations including Kool Kats, the Humane Society, August Dogs, Halteman’s Haven, and Basset Hound Rescue.

In January AANT members made a presentation to Keller City Council, proposing changes, which should be implemented to benefit the animals at the shelter. At their January 19th meeting it was announced that several of these changes will in fact be introduced in the near future including the testing and vaccinating of incoming animals to prevent the spread of disease.
